Happy Bday to Me!

Yet another beautiful birthday. What does a beautiful birthday entail you ask?

Food. And perhaps a few diamonds?

As always, woke up to calls from parents and in-laws. We headed out for breakfast deciding to try out a new diner in San Jose called Bill's Cafe. It had amazing reviews on yelp which made it a must try.

It did not disappoint. The service was probably the best part. It is a true diner in the sense our coffee mugs never had the chance to get half empty (yes, yes, I ordered decaf). We ordered the Veggie Skillet which is basically grilled veggies and scrambled eggs served over crispy hash browns, garnished with avocado, sour cream and chives.

We ordered just one breakfast and decided to share since we knew we had a full day of good eating ahead of us. This was probably the only restaurant that was nice enough to actually split out our dish upfront, so we didn't have to make a mess on our own trying to split out the portions. Each of our portions were individually garnished as well. Sweet!

Our next stop was Kay Jewellers at the Westgate Valleyfair mall. I don't think I have to say anything more on this front, I am sure the picture below conveys it all :-)

We had planned to drive up to Sonoma for lunch to Taste of Himalayas, which is about an hour and ten minutes of a drive from San Jose. It has some really good Nepali/Indian cuisine and we never miss an opportunity to eat there when we are in the vicinity.

We treated ourselves to some Veggie momos, spicy saag paneer and a rack of lamb for hubby. When they asked me how spicy I wanted my saag paneer, I boldly replied "Spicy!". Like me, if you live in the delusion that saag paneer can hardly ever be made spicy, especially in the US, this place will prove you wrong. We ended the perfectly spiced meal with two cups of piping hot chai. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the scrumptious food, it was so good that we jumped right in and didn't wait to take pictures.

For dinner, we went to one of our favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Mountain View called Xanh. We had thai ice teas, buddha rolls, a spicy green curry with rice and a side of string beans. Their desserts are the best and we decided to try what they call "Oh Nuts!".

If you are a ferrero rocher lover like me, you will love this one. It's a hazelnut cake layered with hazelnut cream and chocolate, topped with hazelnuts. Almost like ferrero rocher in cake form. Life cannot get better than that!

Thanks to hubby for making it happen. Love you lots!

Happy Birthday to me!
